Our Product Selector – how to find the right solder wire

Stannol manufactures more than 2,200 different versions of solder wires for a wide range of applications. To give you a better overview, we have developed our innovative product selector. This offers you an initial overview of our most important solder wires.

First, define your specific area of application in the "Selector Guide" section. Then you can specify the desired alloy and the appropriate flux properties. Afterwards, the product overview will show you which solder wire is best suited for your area of application.

Our solder wires are available in standard 100 g, 250 g, 500 g, 1,000 g, 2,500 g and 4,000 g reels as well as in special sizes – we are happy to help you find the right product.

Selector Guide

Alloy composition

The selection of the appropriate alloy plays an important role regarding the reliability of the solder joint. Stannol produces many different high-purity electronic solders – both lead-containing and lead-free. These are available either as standard alloys or as solders with special properties, for example regarding the protection of soldering tips. All alloys in our product range are also available as greenconnect versions on request.

Types of solder wire fluxes

An important component of any solder wire is the flux. It ensures that the oxides formed are removed from the metal surfaces to be soldered. Stannol's solder wires are manufactured with one flux core as standard, but five flux core solder wires are also available.

Halide-containing fluxes for solder wires

For wire fluxes, a choice can be made between halide-containing and halide-free. The wire fluxes with a higher activity are usually halogen activated. As standard, Stannol offers various halide-containing wire fluxes that can be used as No-Clean products in the electronics industry.

When colourless residues are required, the choice should be Stannol's well-proven Kristall series. These wire fluxes are especially designed to leave residues on the PCB that are hardly visible.

Kristall 605 and 611

The greenconnect wire fluxes Kristall 605 and Kristall 611 are characterised by their very low spitting behaviour, similar to our Trilence series. Kristall 605 is classified as REL1, Kristall 611 as REM1. Both solder wires are offered in the alloys Flowtin and SN100CTM. These alloys are gentle on the soldering tips, which considerably increases their service life.

HS10

The wire flux HS10 is a rosin-based flux that has been well-proven for decades. With HS10, short wetting times are achieved on common surfaces. The flux is suitable for hand soldering as well as for fast soldering cycles in industrial machine soldering.

2630

The highest activity of a flux in a solder wire is offered by wire flux 2630, which is used for surfaces that are difficult to solder and for larger cross-sections.

 

Alu 1

Stannol has taken a completely new approach in the development of the Alu 1 solder wire for soldering on aluminium: non-toxic activators have been combined to enable aluminium to be bonded to other materials. It is based on chemically modified resins and contains no natural rosin.The residues are non-corrosive and do not need to be removed.

Halide-free fluxes for solder wires

Halide-free wire fluxes are used when halogen-containing products cannot be used in manufacturing and a higher electrical safety of residues is required. These fluxes offer a lower activity compared to the halogen-containing ones.

Kristall 600

The greenconnect wire flux Kristall 600 is a halide-free variant of the well-proven Kristall series from Stannol. In addition to the transparent residues and good activity, the spitting tendency at higher soldering temperatures has been further reduced with this flux.

HF 32

The wire flux HF32 excellently combines good activity with great flow properties. The HF32 can be used well for hand and machine soldering.

Organic fluxes for solder wires

In addition to solder wires for electronics, Stannol also offers solder wires with special fluxes that have been developed especially for surfaces that are difficult to solder. These include for example solder wires with water-washable residues.

S321

The wire flux S321 is particularly suitable for soldering metal and sheet metal. Tin-plated surfaces can be processed with it just as well as brass or iron.

WS2413

For difficult to solder surfaces in electronics, WS2413 was developed, which leaves water-soluble residues. Easy and fast wetting, a short cycle time and a fast residue removal are the main features of this solder wire.

Trilence series: automated soldering

The Trilence flux system was specially developed for demanding soldering tasks in the automated soldering sector. Due to its optimised properties, the flux system is perfectly suited for laser soldering.

The Trilence wire flux is available as a halogen-activated flux (Trilence 3505 and Trilence 2708) as well as a halogen-free flux (Trilence 3500). All Trilence fluxes are rosin-free and based on a synthetic resin matrix. The Trilence solder wires can be used like conventional solder wires. Due to very low spitting, bright residues and high thermal resistance of the Trilence flux, a particularly clean soldering pattern is achieved.

Activation Matrix

This graph shows the flux activation in relation to the electrical safety of the remaining flux residues after the soldering process. The weaker the flux activation is selected in the Stannol product selection, the higher the electrical safety of the flux residues after the soldering process. For example, the flux in the Kristall 611 solder wire with a slightly activated flux content achieves good electrical safety – as a No-Clean flux even without subsequent cleaning.

The Stannol colour code

For a clear and quick differentiation of the various solder wires, Stannol uses an individual colour code. This colour code consists of two areas; firstly, the colour bar on the label and secondly, the colour of the reel body.
